VOCAB

A true fan is defined as a fan that will buy anything you produce. These diehard fans will drive 200 miles to see you sing; they will buy the hardback and paperback and audible versions of your book; they will purchase your next figurine sight unseen; they will pay for the “best-of” DVD version of your free youtube channel; they will come to your chef’s table once a month.
— Kevin Kelly

TRUE FAN   | tro͞o fan

Noun: A fan that will buy anything you produce.

Every business has a target market and every artist has an audience. These are the people who you resonate with the most. More than any other artist, you understand their pains and desires. The reason we trust baby food companies run by mothers, is the same reason we trust death metal bands that have tattoos. Authenticity is crucial and you simply can’t be relevant, exciting or inspiring to all people. A true fan is someone who is so profoundly impacted by what you create that they will purchase anything you make.

It feels less like a purchase of “I’m not sure if I need it but I guess it’s a good cause.” and more like a “Duh, of course I have to have it! This is my favorite thing and I’ve been waiting!” True fans do not need convincing, they already know the value of what you do, and have been waiting to buy.
